“Our hope is sure and steadfast as a well-placed, secure, and unbending anchor.”  Hebrews 6:19

I know you all know what an aircraft carrier is.  The average length of this ship is 1094 feet long.  An anchor carried by these large carriers weighs over 30,000 lbs.  It is not just the anchor itself that plays the main role of holding the vessel in place, but the anchor chain.  Each link weighs upwards of 500 pounds.  Large ships carry two such anchors on the bow – but using both at once can sometimes be problematic as they can tangle if wind and tide take effect.  These anchors, however, serve to hold the ship steady through stormy seas.

God’s love is the anchor that holds us steady in the storms of life.  You can always trust in God’s love to be your anchor.  His love is constant in our lives.  It can be easy to become distracted by the chaos of the world we live in, but never lose sight of His plan for our lives.  Trusting in God’s plan is not always easy.  We tend to want to take control of our lives and make our own decisions.  Jesus is our hope and anchor who will keep us safe amid storms.  Keeping our eyes fixed on Him, we can be confident that we will never be lost.

So how do we anchor our faith in God’s power?  Practice the presence of God daily.  Sit with Him, read His word, pray, and listen to His voice.  I must repeat the importance of this: God’s love is the anchor that holds us steady in the storms of life.  Our anchor is not located in the deepest sea but in the Highest Heaven.

Who is it that overcomes the world except the one that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?  Yes, Jesus is our hope and anchor who will keep us unmovable despite the tides of life. Let this be placed in your memory:  Jesus is my anchor! Jesus is the only unshakable, unmovable, unending, unbreakable constant in my life.  His Word, His truth, His presence, and His control have never, and will never change.
