A Moment of Truth

Romans 8:38-39

I recently read a devotion and had one of those “ah-ha” moments.  It spoke of a man sent to prison in a hot desert location.  He had been holding a Bible study in his apartment when police raided.  What they thought would break his faith, actually strengthened it. They provided him with minimum food and maximum discomfort. He went on to write: I have surrendered my life to Christ, so I did not have to be fearful. 

Friends, just like that man in prison, we are God’s children.  He loves us despite all our circumstances, our ugliness, and sin. He loves us unconditionally in ways that I cannot comprehend.  He will never lock the door behind us.  He will never hit the ignore button and not take our calls. He always welcomes us back to His open arms (though the consequences of this sin-stained life may sometimes sting a bit).  You will always have the promised inheritance of eternal life, mercy, grace, and forgiveness that has been yours since you have learned the truth of Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection.

Romans 8:38-39 is a profound reminder of the unshakeable and unconditional love that God offers each of us.  Whatever problems dog us, whatever weaknesses come our way in the day-to-day of our lives; as God’s child, you are never alone.  

That man in prison that I wrote about found comfort in the reality of knowing nothing separates us from Christ.  That can be your “ah-ah” moment. Find a comfortable and peaceful space to be alone with God in prayer, and share your thoughts and emotions with Him.  Whether it be in the morning, during a lunch break, or before bed; find a time that works best for you.  Let Him speak to you, and He will.  Know that in that alone time, where you may be facing adversity, discouragement, or struggling to understand why; He is there for you.

As a child of God, you can lay your head on the pillow knowing that His love remains constant to carry you through.  Yes, “I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present or the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.  On the other hand, if you are on a comfortable, easy road at the moment, speak a prayer of thanksgiving for the season of rest and ease. May this always be a Moment of Truth for you.
