Voter’s Assembly Meetings used to last for many hours, filled with passionate debate from leaders and church members. NO LONGER! The Voters’ Assembly gives church members an opportunity to hear from our leaders and make some significant decisions concerning our future.
On Sunday, July 27, beginning at about 10:45am, the Voters’ Assembly will gather to hear the usual reports and also take action on some critical items:
- School Board Elections: three (3) persons are elected each year to serve a three-year term. At present there are five (5) nominees. Names will be published the weekend of July 13.
- Associate Pastor: The Governing Board appointed an Exploratory Committee to discuss the need for, and options for, a new Associate Pastor. The Governing Board will receive the report at its meeting on July 10 and will likely be making a recommendation to the Voter’s Assembly at its meeting on July 27.
- Deaconess Call: Last year St. John’s extended Deaconess Michele a “termed” call which, save action by the congregation, will expire on July 31. The current proposal is to adjust the terms of the call in three ways:
- Move the position to one-half time (instead of just under ¾ time as it is now)
- Replace the current time limitation (that the term ends July 31) with a planned ‘review of terms’ when a new Associate Pastor would accept a call to serve at St. John’s (see previous item)
- Add an ‘Annual Review of terms’ to occur in the weeks following Easter each year
