Another rooftop unit requires replacement

Nearly 20 years ago a thoughtful group of congregational leaders decided to add rooftop HVAC units to replace an aging boiler system that would be outrageously expensive to repair.  And, as an extra bonus, classrooms were outfitted with air conditioning!

Those rooftop units have a life expectancy of 15 years or so. So far this year three of the 10 rooftop units have failed, with the latest one providing both heat and AC for our current 5th grade classroom. Earlier this fall the Trustees made the difficult decision to replace the units for the current kindergarten and sixth grade classrooms.

The concern, of course, is that the other seven units have been in service exactly the same length of time. The current cost to replace each unit is $10,500. In addition to upgrades to the school office suite this past August, St. John’s has invested nearly $42,000 in HVAC upgrades for our school!
