Last fall, when a member of the School Board had to step down, the Governing Board and Pastor Albers began to ask around for a replacement. We were “almost” ready for an election at the Voters’ Assembly in December, only to realize we had not spoken to each of the nominees.

Jan Martinsen, a lifelong church member who is active in worship and often helps with our school ministry, has been named by the Governing Board to fill an unexpired term that continues through June 30, 2025.  The bylaws only permit the Governing Board to make an appointment for up to six months, so an election ratifying this appointment will be on the agenda for our Voters’ Assembly this summer.

Jan currently serves St. John’s on the Banner Committee and for our school book fairs as a representative of PaperPie (Usborne) Books.  Jan has 4 children who attended St. John’s Lutheran School; Joe, Meghan, Valerie, and Ben. Three persons are elected to a three-year term on the school board each year at the summer Voter’s Assembly. Members can serve as many as three consecutive terms in office, although the Governing Board can waive that limitation as necessary. The Governing Board either serves as or appoints a Nominating Committee, so plan now to serve when the opportunity presents itself!

NOTE: Officially, there are openings on every board. Currently, active boards include the Board of Elders, School Board, and Board of Trustees.
