Don’t just get a card for your mom … or settle for taking her out to dinner. Whether you live close by or far away; whether you are giving thanks for your mom who has died or will spend the day with her: make “giving thanks for your mom IN CHURCH” at the top of your “do list” this May 10th.
Each year at St. John’s, we observe Mother’s Day (and Father’s Day) with an extended prayer of thanks in each of our services that weekend, a Bidding Prayer that highlights all of those persons (our mothers and fathers) and the gift of God they are for us. The prayer includes a candle lighting ceremony, providing a time to highlight not only those with us in worship that day, but also to remember those mothers and fathers who are not able to come to church or who have died.
As God’s people in Christ we are called to give thanks for the many blessings we have received from God. We MUST give thanks for those extraordinary blessings … like our moms. Be sure to invite your mother to join you for worship the weekend of May 9 & 10. Moms be sure to BE in worship that weekend! Plan also for the weekend of June 20 & 21, to help observe Father’s Day.
