There are several opportunities to assist various Ministries at St. John’s during this Lenten season. And the list of areas where you can volunteer likely look very familiar, so… where does St. John’s REALLY need your help in the coming weeks? Take a look at how you can be engaged in supporting the life of this community right now:
- Soup suppers – if you’re willing to bring soup or bread to a 5:30pm Wednesday dinner, before Lent services, contact Deaconess Michele.
- Altar Guild – This team needs new volunteers! It’s not scary or tough, but those who have volunteered on this team are excited to teach more people how to assist in this quiet, background, and necessary ministry! They are a team of volunteers who work both individually and as a team to prepare the sanctuary for worship. Newcomers can work with those who have served for many years, as they learn the process.
- Children’s Church – During the 9:30 am Connect service, there occasionally is a devo and craft for the kids to do that teaches them about the sermon lesson for that day. This is a great way for kids to learn and for parents to be able to focus on the sermon. If you’re willing to be another set of hands to help these elementary students with their craft a couple times a year, or are willing to lead a craft and lesson, contact Deaconess Michele or the church office.
- NEST – Are you good at being a sounding board for ideas? Are you good at praying for our school? Our Nurturing Eagle Support Team (N.E.S.T.) is needing some additional leadership and could use additional assistance from anyone with St. John’s connections (church or school). All that’s required is some time to meet and your passion for SJLS. Give the school office a call!
- Event planning – Various events throughout the year, such as Family Reunion Sunday and Trunk-or-Treat, require coordination and creativity to get everything prepped. If you enjoy planning, this may be a great way for you to support one of our yearly events. Contact the church office if you’re willing to assist.
- Livestream Production Team – If you can click a mouse, you can help with the technology side of our services!! Some technology is used at each of our church services, both in the Sanctuary and School Cafeteria. New workers are mentored by experienced ones, so you can get the hang of the process or decide if it’s the right fit for you to volunteer in. Volunteering opportunities range from advancing slides to preparing the livestream and sound equipment. If you would like to get more information, call Debra Albers at (219) 241-9763.
- Ushers – individuals are needed for each worship service and tasks vary from gathering offerings to ringing the bells to helping guide worshippers to communion.
- Thrift Shop – The Thrift Shop is open 10-4 Monday-Friday and 10-1 on Saturdays. If you have time available on Mondays or Thursdays from 8 am – 10 am to help, please stop by and spend some time with us. Please call Linda Peters at 219-393-3496 if you have any questions.
