This fall the middle school is being reconfigured to better prepare students for high school. The strong academic expectations will continue and these changes are intended to help students acclimate to the different day-to-day structure of high school in which students transition between classrooms throughout the day.

These changes will mean the 5th – 8th grade classes will have more subject area rotation.  Students in those grades will have at least 4 teachers throughout the day, who specialize in the four core subjects of ELA, math, science, and social studies. These grades will each have a homeroom teacher. Those teachers will also specialize in a subject area that they will teach all four of the grades. St. John’s is also exploring the opportunity for students to take online courses that can be offered at the middle school level for high school credit.

This fall there will also be an increase in the selection of clubs available to students of all grades. Current clubs include: Student Council, Coding club, LEGO club, 3D/CAD club, and Art club. The goal is to have ten clubs available for students to choose from this fall. If you have a hobby that may make a great club you’re willing to lead for the students after school, please reach out to the school office.

The reconfigured plan is:

  • Mrs. Angie Aquino, grade 5 homeroom, grades 5-8 science
  • Mrs. Lisa Vaillancourt, grade 6 homeroom, grades 5-8 ELA
  • Mrs. Cindy Skalka, grade 7 homeroom, grades 5-8 Social Studies
  • Miss Julie Stelter, grade 8 homeroom, grades 5-8 Math
