Summer projects will have a focus on completing improvements to the keyless access system.
Thanks to a grant through the Indiana Department of Homeland Security we have, in the last several years, moved to install keyless access throughout our school building. This summer that will expand to include the gymnasium and a new retractable gate for the back parking area.
Previously we installed locks that mostly served to protect our buildings when they were NOT being used. Keyless access is focused on securing the people (students, teachers, staff, etc.) when our building … especially our school building … is in use.
This summer Pastor Albers will be leading efforts to make our gymnasium more secure, especially when the room is being used by our students.
- A new keyless access control center will be added to the gymnasium storage room. We currently have two such control centers, one in the church workroom and the other in the teacher’s workroom.
- Keyless access will be expanded to include the west gym doors. A locksmith has already upgraded the hardware and later this summer another vendor will extend cable and install the components necessary (card readers and controllers) to provide keyless access. Doors will be locked and, when closed, a code or card will be required for entry from the rest of the school building.
- The new retractable gate will be added to the system. The red gate that segregated the back parking area has been replaced with a retractable gate. Now church volunteers will run power and cables to the unit so that the unit can be opened by use of a code or card or, even, remotely from the church office.
- Additional infrastructure will prepare for more expansion in the coming years. Other components will be added to our keyless access system to provide for more expansion in fiscal year 2026 and into the future. This will include the kitchen and cafeteria, as well as integrating our current fire alarm system to provide for more immediate response in the case of an intruder or other emergency.
If you’d like to assist with installations over the summer, please reach out to Pastor Albers.
