Three mornings a week Pastor Albers leads Faith Formation for the 7th and 8th grade students at St. John’s Lutheran School. This class also fulfills part of the requirements to be confirmed as a member of SJLC. Pastor Albers is the primary instructor, although Deaconess Michele occasionally teaches, as well (and a few other visitors).
This year the students are studying the story arc of the Bible, and what the Bible teaches us about who God is and our relationship with Him. When studying creation, the students reviewed how intricately God made our entire world. From the complexities of the structure of the human body to the precision of Earth’s gravity and atmosphere to be able to sustain us, God’s fingerprints are all over creation.
As they reviewed Genesis, the students studied how God is both all-loving and wants all people to share His love by caring for His creation and the people around us. They are also learning that the relationships and roles that they have (vocations) are opportunities to share God’s love and care. They also have studied that God is just and the consequence of sin is judgment. Most importantly, they’re learning that God is loving and has grace because He loves us. They reviewed how this pattern repeated throughout the book of Genesis.
The students also studied the covenant that God made with Abraham and how that was part of bringing Jesus to Earth to be the savior for all people. In October, they studied the lineage of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In November they will focus on the Exodus.
Please keep these students in your prayers, as they learn the Bible more and grow in knowledge of our loving Creator.
