St. John’s grades pre-K through 6th utilize the same religion class curriculum, called Enduring Faith. These workbooks, created by the LCMS publishing company Concordia Publishing House (CPH), teach the primary Bible stories through the course of the school year. Each of the 8 units cover the same theme and section of the Bible. So, siblings in different grades will be hearing the same stories, at their own age-appropriate level, each week. 

As students mature, more details are interwoven and the connections to Jesus and other parts of Scripture are increased. According to CPH, “as students progress through the program, they learn all about their Savior Jesus Christ, what their Savior means for them, how to defend their faith, and how to teach their faith to others. Age-appropriate activities build skills to strengthen Bible learning.”

The curriculum provides quizzes, activities, and teacher’s guides to be a helpful resource, especially for the teachers who do not come from a Lutheran background. This ensures that, school-wide, each child is receiving a consistent and Bible-based education.

In the 7/8th grade classroom, Pastor Albers teaches a Faith Formation class. This course is intentionally different, in order to help students get a full overview of the Bible and then learn the doctrines and teachings of the Lutheran church. Those who are members of St. John’s are then eligible to be confirmed. Those who are not members of St. John’s also benefit from the in-depth review of the Bible and the conversations on what we believe, based on the Bible.
