Deaconess Michele Led a Fall Women’s Retreat in Idaho

For the first weekend of October, Deaconess Michele traveled to Salmon, Idaho to lead the women’s retreat for her dad’s congregation, Shepherd of The Valley Lutheran Church. This is the third year she has written, and led, a retreat for these inquisitive women of faith.

Over Friday evening and Saturday, 14 women gathered at the church for a study on women of the Bible. On Friday night the group studied how God’s loving character was exemplified through three miracles: Elijah raising the widow of Zarephath’s son, Elisha raising the Shunammite woman’s son, and Jesus raising the widow of Nain’s son. They discussed how, by closely repeating a miracle done by both Elijah and Elisha, Jesus again revealed his role as Messiah who fulfills the Old Testament prophecies and is greater than the Old Testament prophets.

On Saturday the group studied 17 more women. They learned about women who are examples of strong faith, women who are examples of service, and women who are examples of leadership in the church. They discussed the repeated themes of God’s care and love for all people, regardless of status or situation. The group also got to do a craft of knitting crosses and enjoy meals and times of fellowship.

“It was a blessing to be able to use my skills and passion for women’s Bible study to teach and study with the ladies of Shepherd of The Valley Lutheran. I praise God for the conversations that were had and how He, through the stories of women in the Bible, reveals His character,” said Deaconess Michele of the retreat.
