St. John’s is the first stop on the La Porte Christmas Candlelight Tour this year!
In preparation for this community-engaging event, St. John’s volunteers are needed. The People Engaging in Preservation (PEP) sponsors this tour of historic homes in the neighborhood just west of the church, but they do not run the tour itself. Rather, St. John’s must provide the volunteers to manage several different aspects so that attendees can enjoy their entire time touring the sanctuary.
This will be a great opportunity for the community to get to see the beautiful architecture and stained-glass of the church building, as well as a great opportunity for the St. John’s community to invite to worship those who are on the tour. There are several ways that you can get involved:
CHRISTMAS DECORATING
In preparation for this event, plans for decorating the church are underway! Here are the times that volunteers are needed:
- Sunday, December 1, @10:45 am: Set up trees. Lights added, but no other decorations.
- Wednesday, December 4, @7:15 pm (after evening prayer): Decorating – Part 1. Decorate the sanctuary and chapel, as time allows
- Saturday, December 7, @9:00 am-Noon: Decorating Part 2. Any remaining decorations. Prep for Candlelight Tour.
VOLUNTEERING DURING THE TOUR
Narthex greeter: Welcome attendees and visitors to St. John’s.
Door greeter: Direct people who enter from one of our many entrances to the narthex, so they can order their tickets and begin their tour from the main entrance under the portico.
Hospitality volunteer: Tidy up the area in the Chapel where the cookies and drinks will be served.
Stained glass tour guide: Learn a bit more about our building to lead a small group of attendees on a tour around the building. This is a great way to get to know the history of St. John’s better and share your passion for this community with those you guide.
EVENT DETAILS
The Candlelight Tour will be Saturday, December 7th, 4:00-8:00 pm, and Sunday, December 8th, 1:00-5:00 pm. The St. John’s community is invited to also attend the tour. To attend the tour, tickets and tour guide maps can be purchased at St. John’s each day of the tour for $30.
