Chapel Renovations continue, but mostly off site
Workers have moved their efforts to workshops off site. Currently the new altar platforms are getting the most attention and by the end of October lumber for the new doors will be cut, sanded, and assembled into door panels. Eighteen new panels approximately 22” wide will replace the vinyl accordion-style doors. The doors will be constructed of solid oak and oak plywood. The design will resemble the design of the reredos screen (the wall behind the altar) but also include a small window at the top.
Craftsmen at New Holland Church Furniture located in New Holland, Pennsylvania, are currently building 50 new church chairs to help replace the pews that were removed from the chapel. The wooden chairs will be made from oak stained to match our current pews and other furniture. The goal is a new look that “fits well” into our current sanctuary.
At least six conference/seminar tables will also be set up in the chapel, with a study and meeting space usually set up in the back portion of the chapel. However, the goal is an exceptionally flexible space for many purposes, including more helpful “overflow” seating for larger events such as the Children’s Christmas Program or Festival Services at Easter.
The first event in the new space has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 22, at 6:30pm, the traditional time for St. John’s service for the Day of National Thanksgiving. Pastor Albers has also planned to hold the Christmas Day Divine Service in the chapel as well at 10am on December 25.
