Heavy rains early in the school year made evident a leak in the ceiling of the second-grade classroom. Some volunteers thought they had found the leak … but, alas, the leak was evident with each rainstorm.
After some more investigative work, the team identified at least one problem, a cracked roof drain. They quickly ordered a new drain, installed it, and patched the roof. Problem solved! Or so they thought. But the leak returned.
In late September a member of the Board of Trustees called in some professionals who were able to identify the leaks (plural) and repair them. (Praise the Lord!) Our school’s custodian took advantage of the fall school break to clean the carpets.
And then, just as all the problems were repaired, a cold snap revealed another, ongoing problem that will need attention. A small amount of water often remains in the pipes which take water from the roof drains to the ground … but through the classrooms near the ceiling. The cold water and warm temps in the ceilings create condensation.
The Board of Trustees is planning for a fix and will get to work on it this winter and next spring
