Our bylaws indicate that the Governing Board serves as a Call Committee whenever the congregation is calling a new pastor.
In recent months the Governing Board has gathered input from a wider range of leaders including a called teacher and several others. The result is a “Candidate Profile” designed to “describe” our next pastor and the priorities we will have for him when he accepts our call to service.
Without getting into too many details, this profile outlines teamwork and the necessity of working with multiple generations of God’s people and seeking out new ministry models to replace those from previous years that no longer serve the church as well as they once did. The short document also highlights the need to appreciate diverse worship experiences. The profile also indicates that our next pastor will serve as our school’s chaplain and be an ongoing presence for students and teachers alike.
The group did not put together any kind of formal succession plan, but the Candidate Profile also makes clear that the next five years will be a time of considerable transition. In this time our school will have a new principal, Pastor Albers will retire and we will likely say a final farewell to numerous aging church members.
The next step in this process is for some of these members to meet with our circuit visitor, Reverend Daniel Speckhard of St. Peter in North Judson and prepare a new Congregational Self-Study. The Indiana DIstrict will help prepare a list of potential candidates, although church members are encouraged to bring names of potential candidates.
There is no formal timeline for calling our new Associate Pastor. If in the meantime you would like to review the current Candidate Profile please contact the church office or Pastor Albers.
