Another new interactive display was installed in the 5th grade classroom over the Thanksgiving Break, bringing the total to FOUR such displays to enhance learning for St. John’s students.
These boards combine features of a large dry-erase board, since teachers and students can write directly on the touch-screen display, and they replace the usual “projector display” that has been typical of St. John’s classrooms over the last 10 years or so.
With the addition of a “Chromebox” the Promethean board becomes an extension of the teacher’s Chromebook allowing a seamless transition from one device to another. The teacher can also show the results of individual student devices for the entire classroom.
Promethean’s award-winning interactive display delivers a robust, seamless, and secure user experience, and allows St. John’s to respond to the unique needs of teachers, IT administrators, and school leaders. Our Technology Coordinator, Emilie Gross, also installed two additional Chromebox devices on existing Promethean boards in Mrs. Aquino’s classroom and on the “mobile” unit.
The mobile unit has served well to introduce teachers to the Promethean board, so that by the time a wall-mounted unit is permanently installed in a classroom the teacher is able to seamlessly integrate the technology into the student experience.
MORE BOARDS ON THE WAY
Over the last several years St. John’s has been improving its classroom technology, adding new interactive displays to classrooms, especially in the older elementary and middle school classrooms. Nearly 1/2 of our classrooms now boast such a display, and within a few years each classroom should have this capability.
Our strategic plan includes expanding this technology to each of our TEN classrooms over a period of five years. It costs about $3,500 for each unit and is paid for through an annual Technology fee paid for each student, which means that over the next two years we will spend $14,000 dollars on improving our ability to serve students.
