Rutz Memorial Scholarship Available
Richard “Dick” Rutz was well known throughout La Porte mostly as a farmer, leader of the La Porte County Fair, and science teacher. When Dick died in 2020 his family established a scholarship fund intended to help students from La Porte continue their education.
Due to some recent changes, the “baton” (as it were) has been passed to St. John’s Lutheran Church and School to help receive donations and award this annual $1,000 scholarship. Eligible recipients:
- Must have SOME relationship to St. John’s: a current member, an alumni from our school, or even a child or grandchild of an active member of St. John’s.
- Must attend (or plan to attend this fall) some form of post-secondary education (university, college or technical school).
The family has made their intentions clear: ANY form of post-secondary education will qualify for this scholarship. A simple letter from the student outlining their intentions is sufficient for consideration.
The application for the scholarship is below. If a parent or grandparent is making an application on behalf of a child or grandchild, the student must still provide a letter outlining their plans for their education after high school graduation, by emailing it to the church office.
This is the form to apply to receive the Rutz Memorial Scholarship for the upcoming fall.Rutz Memorial Scholarship Application
