Our church roof and a portion of our school roof were damaged in hail storms over the past two seasons. The trustees have initiated a claim with our insurance company and are currently working towards a resolution.
Representatives of JB West, a La Porte County roofing contractor have completed a comprehensive review of the damage and have determined that there are no suitable tiles available to repair the damaged roofing tiles. They have provided an estimate for a complete replacement of the existing roof tile system.
Our insurer, Brotherhood Mutual, has proposed that “spot” repairs can be completed at a much lower cost and have contracted with Vincent Hobson (aka “The Roof Tile Guru”) to complete an inspection and propose repairs. The adjusters believe Vince may have access to the tiles necessary. He will be on site to perform his inspection on May 15.
While the tile roof has served St. John’s very well since the building was constructed, the roof tile system is now more than 70 years old. Over the years the congregation has needed to complete repairs including replacing a portion of the tile roof with a metal roofing system designed to imitate the look of a clay tile roof.
