Spring storms made evident some issues with the drainage for our parking lot, something which may have an impact on our gymnasium roof drains.
Multiple roof drains collect water from the roof that covers the gymnasium and contiguous areas. The water is sent through a series of drain tiles which exit under the building on the far east side of the gymnasium. This drain tile connects to surface drains in the gym and church parking lots. The drain tile which connects to the surface drains in the church parking lot are “perforated,” creating a rather large “dry well” to hold water until it can “percolate” (i.e. soak in) through the stone and soil.
Only the far southeast drain was holding water after this year’s spring storms, indicating some challenges with the system. Matt, a friend of the congregation, who also is the project lead for the Indiana Avenue project, has made a couple of suggestions for resolving the issue, as well as some contractors who could assist in maintenance and repairs.
