On Friday, May 15, you may have seen a rather larger, articulating lift hovering over the church roof. Paul Trimmel, a field adjuster with Brotherhood Mutual, was accompanying Vince Hobson, aka the “Roof Tile Guru” as they performed a closer inspection of our church roof. Hobson has more than 30 years of hands-on experience and knowledge dealing with the installation, collecting, identification and selling of historic and obsolete roofing tiles.
Numerous roof tiles were damaged in a hail storm in the spring of 2024. St. John’s initiated an insurance claim at the encouragement of a local roofing contractor who completed an initial inspection of the roof. The field adjuster recommended spot repairs, replacing only selected damaged tiles. The contractor cannot locate the tiles and has recommended a total replacement. There is obviously a significant gap between the cost of repairs and the cost of replacement.
Once Vince completes his report the field adjuster will update his report and the claims adjuster from Brotherhood Mutual will also update their coverage determination.
