Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Lisa Vaillancourt

Get to know the new third grade teacher: Mrs. Lisa Vaillancourt

Mrs. Lisa Vaillancourt and her family, originally from West Virginia, moved to Northwest Indiana 7 years ago. They have now been living in Union Mills for the past 3 years and are continuing to grow roots as they call NWI home. They have two sons, in 4th and 6th grades, both of whom have attended St. John’s since January. 

Lisa has 18 years of education experience. She went to school at Fairmont State in West Virginia, and began teaching in public schools in West Virginia. She later home schooled her children and then taught at Victory Christian Academy in Valparaiso. She has experience in teaching preschool, 2nd grade, 4th grade, special education, and in administrative roles. This spring semester she was St. John’s 3rd grade teacher’s aide, focused on assisting with reading skills. 

When asked what made her want to return to St. John’s as a teacher this fall, she said she trusts that God brought her here to use her skills in beefing up the third grade reading and writing programs and furthering God’s kingdom. She desires that each student knows God, and has a passion to see kids grow over the year. Her favorite subjects to teach are reading/writing and religion classes.

Already her students are learning how to write a full sentence, how to do multiplication, and in art they are learning about circles and lines and dots. They are also reading folktales, learning about the parts of a story (characters, setting, chronology, etc.), and learning the writing process in preparation of writing their own personal narratives.

St. John’s is grateful to have Mrs. Vaillancourt’s experience and passions on our staff, and look forward to seeing how God uses her to teach and strengthen our students.
