A smaller summer custodial staff has made an out-sized impact thanks to the regular work of a team of volunteers led by Al Vollmer (hence the name “Al’s Team”).

DEEP CLEANING

The team moved desks, chairs, cabinets and shelving which enabled our small custodial staff to complete a deep cleaning of most of the classrooms. Floors were stripped and repolished and carpets were cleaned. The last deep cleaning involves stripping and refinishing the KITCHEN floor, something which has not been completed for several years.

NEW OUTLETS AND OTHER COMPONENTS

Our school building was built before there was so much demand for electrical devices, like computers and other items. The team has continued to repair, replace or add electrical outlets as needed.

INTERACTIVE DISPLAY UPGRADES

While each classroom includes an Interactive Display, teachers are realizing that accessing the classroom’s white board is also important.  In the last weeks of the summer the team hopes to install an “affordable” option that allows a teacher to easily move the display out of the way of the whiteboard on which most of these displays have been mounted over the last few years.

You can still help! The team has usually gathered on Tuesday mornings, but have adjusted the days they are working to match the needs of the custodial team and school leaders.  There are also several projects that could be completed by individuals or other small groups:

  • Moving stone into a trench
  • Cutting into pieces some items too large to fit into the dumpster
  • Installing a more permanent landscaping solution to the north of the preschool play area (between the two fences).
